Kelly valve is a manually operated ball-type valve for the drill stem, divided into upper and lower sections. The upper Kelly valve is connected between the lower end of the swivel and the upper end of Kelly. The lower Kelly valve is connected between the upper end of the drill pipe and the lower end of Kelly or the lower end of Kelly saver subs. The Kelly valve can be opened or closed off by simply turning a special operating wrench 90° according to the indicated direction.
Versatile Installation: Available in both upper and lower configurations:
Upper Kelly Valve: Positioned between the swivel and the kelly.
Lower Kelly Valve: Located between the kelly and the drill pipe.
Robust Construction: Manufactured from a single piece of forged AISI 4145H (40CrMnMo) modified alloy steel, fully heat-treated to achieve a Brinell hardness of 285–341 and a minimum impact strength of 40 ft-lb (54J).
Pressure Ratings: Designed to withstand working pressures of 5,000 psi (35 MPa), 10,000 psi (70 MPa), and 15,000 psi (105 MPa).
Full Bore Design: Ensures unrestricted flow and allows the passage of tools without interference.
Sealing Mechanism: Features a metal-to-metal seal with a stainless steel ball and a spring-supported lower seat to maintain a secure seal under high-pressure conditions.
Operational Simplicity: Operated using a special wrench that turns the stem 90°, clearly marked for open and closed positions.
Corrosion Resistance: Available with H₂S corrosion-resistant materials compliant with NACE MR0175 standards, suitable for sour gas environment

Well Control: Provides a means to quickly shut off the drill string to prevent blowouts.
Pressure Management: Allows for control over unexpected pressure surges during drilling operations.
Maintenance Operations: Facilitates safe disconnection of the Kelly from the drill string without fluid loss.
